 Dr. Ashley Metcalfe DVM

As a Canon City native, it was a “no brainer” for Dr. Metcalfe to return home after four years in Fort Collins where she completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree at Colorado State University. Before that, she received her Bachelor Science degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Supervisory Management from Colorado State University-Pueblo.

She lives with her supportive husband, Cody, her toddler son, Cash, newborn daughter, Macy, their two rescue pups (Grace and Archie), and silly orange tabby cat (Bernhardt). Together, they enjoy hiking, playing games with family, enjoying craft beer, traveling, and enjoying new cultures.

Dr. Metcalfe has a special interest in animal behavior and is one of the few Fear-Free certified veterinarians in Canon City. When she’s not at work here, she loves to volunteer with non-profit spay and neuter programs to serve the underserved populations.

Dr. Ronald Smith DVM

Dr. Ronald Smith DVM

Dr. Smith grew up in Canon City and graduated in 1973 from Canon City High School. He attended Colorado State University where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. After spending 4 1/2 years in the Army, stationed mainly in Italy, he returned to Canon City.

He purchased Fremont Veterinary Hospital from Dr. Gerald Shiner. In 1993, he purchased Canon City Small Animal Hospital from Dr. Paul Hildebrand and combined the practices. In 2000, he built a new facility where the practice is now. In 2021, Dr. Smith passed the torch to Dr. Metcalfe as the new owner of FVH. He still enjoys practicing and serving his long standing clients almost daily.

Dr. Smith's favorite areas of practice are surgery and dentistry. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, golf, and playing music. He and his wife, Sandy, have a family of 7 children and 13 grandchildren.  Dr. Smith and Sandy are very involved with their church and the Canon City Noon Lions Club.

Dr. Molly Webb DVM

Dr. Molly Webb grew up in West Virginia where she was an avid horseback rider. Her love of horses and animals is the reason Molly wanted to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. She received her veterinary degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she was an active member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. After completing her didactic training at Ross University, she performed her clinical training at the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine where she received the Equine Surgery Student of the Year Award. Molly was an equine veterinarian for 8 years before deciding to practice small animal medicine. She is very happy to start her small animal medicine journey here at Fremont Veterinary Hospital. In Molly’s free time she can be found riding her horse, or fly fishing and hiking with her family.

Dr. Jody Seamster

Dr. Jody Seamster

Dr. Seamster is a dynamic and compassionate veterinarian with a passion for all things furry, fluffy, and four-legged. A proud 2017 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, she launched her career in the rugged landscapes of Colorado, wrangling everything from cows to colts as a large animal vet. But her journey didn’t stop there—she later traded barn boots for cat cuddles, honing her skills in feline internal medicine at a dedicated cat clinic in Las Vegas.

After four exciting years in the desert, Dr. Seamster is thrilled to be back in Colorado with her husband, who serves in the U.S. Air Force. She’s bringing her deep knowledge of complex medical cases and her warm, personalized approach to a mixed small animal practice—ready to care for both cats and dogs with the same enthusiasm she brings to every adventure.

When she’s not in the clinic, you’ll find Dr. Seamster chasing mountain views while hiking 14’ers, casting a line at a quiet fishing spot, or getting her hands dirty rebuilding her garden. At home, she and her husband are happily outnumbered by their four-legged crew—dogs Murphy and Fox, and cats Simba and Nala.

Dr. Bernal

Dr. Bernal grew up in Lawton/Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and attended Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes!), earning her degree in Animal Science. She began her career as a veterinary receptionist and assistant, giving her a strong appreciation for the entire veterinary team and the client experience.

She received her DVM from St. George’s University and completed clinical training at Kansas State University. Her interests include emergency medicine and community outreach.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Bernal enjoys the outdoors, trying new restaurants, and adventuring with her two Australian Shepherds, Ripley Lane and Speck Kane.
